SIGNED by the author boldly at first free endpaper, inscribed warmly to Gerald Frank, he of Meier & Frank fame, a long-term downtown Portland, Oregon business hub and name. Stated First Edition, bound simply in brown cloth over boards, sharp and distinct black lettering to spine. The author, Mark Odom Hatfield (July 12, 1922 â August 7, 2011), was a popular American teacher at his Alma Mater (Willamette University) before becoming a life-long politician, a two-term Governor of the State of Oregon and a U.S. Senator in the Republican party alongside Robert (Bob) Packwood. Born in Dallas, Oregon, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during W.W.I.I. after graduating from Willamette University; he later attended and graduated from Stanford University. This memoir details especially his later life and his political career that grew out of his academic tenure at Salem, Oregon's Willamette University, including letters to and from political and religious leaders. 224 pp. including notes and index.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
