The Best of Zane Grey: 3 Classic Western Novels Complete and Unabridged

This compilation of Zane Grey novels could have been better put together. I mean the three books combined here really do not go together. Riders of the Purple Sage should have been paired with its sequel, The Rainbow Trail, and another early romance like Heritage of the Desert. Man of the Forest would have been better matched with any of the other Tonto Basin stories; and Lone Star Ranger needs lots of help because the two novels from which it was created by the Harper editors is so much better. These three need to be united in one book. As to the stories in this volume: Riders is considered the best "western" ever written by most critics and set the stage for all of the "westerns" which followed, even yet today. Man of the Forest is the story of a loner who learned to live again through the love of a woman. In it Zane Grey also begins to express his opinions on conservation of natural resources And Lone Star Ranger, like I said made from two other novels, Last of the Duanes and Rangers of the Lone Star. Overall I gave this a 4 star rating because of Lone Star Ranger, as it is not the best Zane Grey book, only average. All in all, if one wants to own a complete set of different editions or collections of Zane Grey's work, then this is the book to buy.
