About This Item
The Bernard Becker Medical Library, Washington University School of Medicine, 1996 4to (26 cm), XXIV, 180 pp, 8 leaves of plates in colour. Publisher's cloth with pasted on illustration. The Bernard Becker Collection in Ophthalmology and Optics, Washington University School of Medicine is one of North America’s finest rare book and print collections specializing in the sciences of the eye and light. The third edition of the catalogue compiled by Lilla Wechsler, Christopher Hoolihan and Mark F. Weimer follows by the first of 1979 and the second of 1983. "It is devided into sections like the previous editions: Rare Books, Graphics, Post-1900 Imprints, and Indices. The rare book section contains one hundred new entries and almost sixty new cross references in addition to the 426 entries of the second edition. Its temporal scope remains the same, including works published from the end of the fifteenth century to the end of the nineteenth. A subsequent section of the book presents a catalog of eighteen pieces of graphic art relating to the eye, now accompanied by color illustrations. As appendices we include a revised list of post-1900 imprints followed by a new list of ophthalmological titles selected from other collections of the Library" (from the Preface).
