Quand j'ai reçu et lu votre texte exquis qui inaugure la Justification de la Sodomie, j'avais de quoi nourrir mon désespoir individuel : oui, c'est comme cela qu'il faut que la pensée se pense et le mot s'écrive, aisément. (Moi j'écris comme une poupée articulée). C'est un grand enthousiasme et je suis heureux que vous voulez me confier la publication de la "Justification" amplifiée. Ce sera un document de premier ordre et d'une portée encore mal calculable. J'aimerais vous dire : négligez tout le reste en faveur de cet ouvrage-confession-expérimentale. La poésie est un fait. Aujourd'hui je ne vous parlerai pas en détail de vos pages. (La question "musculature et vision" est d'une importance première et sera à contrôler très froidement). Je tâcherai de trouver un moyen (portrait) de continuer à vous voir à Carcassonne. Un de vos collègues d'école, homme d'affaires exubérant, Mr [Marcel-Yves] Toulzet, m'a demandé assez sympathiquement, de faire le portrait de sa femme et de sa fille. – Voilà donc de nouveau un début à Carcassonne ! Residing in Paris since 1938, he was arrested as a German national and therefore a suspect in the eyes of the authorities. Imprisoned in the Camp des Milles near Aix-en-Provence alongside Max Ernst, he ended up taking refuge in hiding. The artist had created his Doll in 1934, and it is therefore not without emotion that he expresses here his reunion with his most famous artwork. He also evoked to Bousquet his desire to continue his illustrated project on L'Anatomie, which later became his famous illustrated book Anatomie de l'image, published in 1957. Bellmer and Bousquet have known each other for a short time, but the mutual understanding between the two surrealists was already at its height. The artist unreservedly approves the poet's text on his "justification of sodomy", a pathetic but very real consequence of the wound on the sexuality of Joë Bousquet, bedridden since the Great War. He does not hide his enthusiasm to be entrusted by the poet with a common on the "amplified justification" of the text, which however remained in the embryonic state and was not published.
