New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1916. First Edition Thus. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Fine/Very Good. 12mo. Pp. 54, (1). Bound in bright blue cloth with gilt lettering, rules and Wilson's signature stamped in gilt on front cover. With the stamp of Charles W. Hill on the front free endpaper, else Fine in the dust jacket that has shallow nicks at head and tail of spine, and a perforation the size of a pencil eraser mid-spine. In the rare dust jacket that lists publisher's titles on the verso. Both flaps advertise the publisher's list, as if a novelty in the era that introduced dust jackets as a common feature in book publishing. Wilson's essay first appeared in Atlantic Monthly, 1897. First presented here in book form, 1916, the fourth year of his first presidential term. Dust jacket is now protected in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
