New York: Doran, 1923. First Edition. Signed presentation copy from film producer Samuel Goldwyn to Barrett C. Kiesling. Inscribed: “To Barrett C. Kiesling, With best wishes, Samuel Goldwyn. Barrett C. Kiesling was the publicity director for film director Cecil B. DeMille from 1924-1927 and then graduated to the powerful position of the Publicity Director for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios from 1928 to 1960. Fine in a very good dust with some chipping. A 263 page portrait of Hollywood and its stars as well as an autobiographical account of this major film producer’s rise. Samuel Goldwyn (1879 - 1974) was a Polish-American film producer, best known for being the founding contributor and executive of several motion picture studios in Hollywood. His awards include the 1973 Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award, the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1947, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1958. As a film producer Goldwyn created such classic films as Wuthering Heights, The Best Years of Our Lives, Dodsworth, Ball of Fire, The Pride of the Yankees, The Hurricane, The Westerner, The Bishop’s Wife, Guys and Dolls, Porgy and Bess, etc.
