About This Item
Eichstätt: Freunde des Jura-Museums Eichstätt, 1985. First Edition, First Printing. [A German edition was published simultaneously with no priority]. Hardcover. About Fine/About Fine. 382 p. : ill. ; 25 cm. 2 small posters contained in pocket attached to inside of back cover. Errata slip tipped in. Scarce to the trade, doubly so in this condition. Recounts the terrific debate centering around the meaning of what is arguably the most famous fossil in history, with three different, fiercely fought positions w/r/t the very orgin of animal flight. Filled with tales of great opportunities lost (Yale tried to low-ball the owner of the fossil in 1877 and University of Berlin ended up with it), accusations of forgery, outlier positions of alien space orgins and lots of hard science in between.
