About This Item

Tight, square spine has some very subtle ceasing. Former owner name to half-title, but interior is else clean and unmarked. There is a very small hole punched in the back cover and a one-inch crease to the front cover at the fore-edge foot. Gurdjieff once said, 'I bury the bone so deep that the dogs have to scratch for it,' and here we find a classic example of this allegorical density: the mystic's philosophy is concealed in the stories told by Beelzebub, an extraterrestrial piloting the spaceship, Karnak, alongside his grandson, Hassein. It has been said that this grandfather-grandson relationship, spurred by Freud's theory that Judaism and Christianity suggest a relationship between father (Judaism) and son (Christianity), reflects a worldview that is both pre-Judaic and post-Christian. 402 pp. Western Esotericism.

Synopsis

G. I. Gurdjieff was born in 1887 in Alexandropol. After studying with spiritual masters in the Near East and Asia, he founded the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man in France.
