About This Item
NY: Viking. (1966). The first American edition -- reportedly preceding the Canadian edition -- of the landmark second novel by the Canadian poet-folksinger, one of the key books of the Sixties -- a "visionary counter-culture religious epic" in the words of one critic. In its paperback reprint edition, it was ubiquitous on college campuses and passed hand-to-hand by a generation that was finding itself increasingly alienated from the mainstream, dominant culture. Trace foxing to foredge, still a fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and a crease to the front flap fold. Unless otherwise noted, our first editions are first printings. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine.
Synopsis
Beautiful Losers is a novel by Leonard Cohen. Published in 1966 by McClelland and Stewart, it was the Canadian novelist-poet's second novel, and precedes his career as a singer-songwriter. It is noted as being perhaps Cohen's most defiant and uninhibited work, and is also one of the best-known experimental novels to be published during the 1960s.
