Chilling mid-20th-century dystopian novel, basis for the 1959 film starring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire, & Anthony Perkins (& the 2000, far inferior, remake). 312 pp. DJ design by John Rowland. The true FIRST (British) EDITION from 1957, First Printing, this hardcover 8vo had red cloth-covered boards lettered in gilt to spine. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure. Pages creamy white & mildly but evenly tanned, completely unmarked; offsetting to endpapers, slight dust dulling & light soil to outside page edges. Mild rubbing to extremities & corner bumping. The unclipped DJ (with orig. 15 s. net price to lower front flap) is Good: slight red stain (oloring?) to back cover, heavy rubbing to extremities, slight chipping at both ends of spine; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free!
