The first edition of this work, being Joseph L Carr's sixth novel.A sombre intertwining a touch of comedy with a high seriousness in a very unique way in the English language. Following a young English exchange teacher as he spends a year in the fictional town of Pallisades in South Dakota. A novel grounded on personal experience, this was the first written novel by this author, but he could not get it published until later, after much editing and some rewriting.This book was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.In the original, unclipped dustwrapper. In the original publisher's cloth binding with minor shelfwear only and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. the dustwrapper is excellent and unclipped with only minor shelfwear.
