New York: Random House. Very Good in Good dust jacket. ©1953. Book Club Edition. Hardcover. 187 p. 21.5 cm. Sound and square binding in cloth-covered boards. Corners slightly bumped. Top edge of the text block has some foxing. Previous owner's name in pencil in box on front free endpaper. A section of about 10 pages has a tiny corner fold to the bottom fore-corner. Otherwise the inside pages are clean and unmarked. Dust jacket has chips, creases and tears, mostly at spine ends and corners. The spine is faded. The story of the Barbary pirates off the coast of North Africa and how the fledgling United States navy came into its own by taking the pirates on in battle. Illustrated with duotone drawings. One of the publisher's Landmark books for children. Landmark Books No. 31 .
