This book enquires into the causes, date and manner in which so remarable a change of habit came about in China at a time when there was no close contact with any people using chairs. Early pictorial and archaeological material is used to illustrate the first use of chairs. This is the first systematic study this nature. Seventeen full-page plates; numerous line drawings in text.
