Demy folio, [27.75cm/11inches], full gilt-embossed half-bound white-calf-backed tyrian purple cloth sans dust jacket, pp. 415. Illustrated with b-w halftones, &tc. Please feel free to ask for particulars and/or additional photographs. ... In 1914, World War I broke out. Many employees of both the Bank of New South Wales and the Commercial Bank of Australia enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. Of the 1,112 men from the two banks who volunteered, 186 were killed in action. In 1918, John Russell French, general manager of the Bank of New South Wales, was knighted for his service in helping Australia finance the war effort.
