About This Item
New York: Simon & Schuster, 1970 How is it that we and our parents permitted Disney to dumb down this wonderful book for us? John Galsworthy was an advance reviewer, reading the galley proofs in March 1928 and he described it thusly: "Clear and illuminating, and in places very moving, it is a little masterpiece." This is a fairly grubby school library book from Indus, Alberta. 191 pages, illustrated by Caldecott awarded Barbara Cooney (1917-2000) (for her Chaucer illustrations in 1958), and again for Ox Cart Man. This book is complete but the back page/inner endpaper has been torn out. There are also the usual library accoutrements. Green boards are faded and tapestained. Price clipped dj in protective cover. There are a number of grubby little fingerprints, but who are we to begrudge?
