George Antheil (1900-59), composer, author & inventor, a controversial figure in the expatriate avant-garde community of American composers in Europe in the first half of the 20th century, much of which is covered in this autobiography, including his time spent in 1920s Paris with James Joyce, Gertrude Stein et al.
The 4th Symphony was finished in 1944 and dated '42'; Leopold Stokowski premiered the work at Carengie Hall on February 13th 1944, with the NBC Symphony.
