Independence Township, New Jersey: Independence Township Committee / Bicentennial Committee, 1976. 6" wide by 9" tall. Staplebound in the original pale blue pictorial wrappers. A little finger soil on the cover. NO owner's name or bookplate. Pages are clean but for a small brown spot in the margin of a few preliminary pages, and one ink correction of a typo in the text (i.e. 1782, not 1872). NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. A history of the Township with chapters on: the Lenni-Lenape Indians; early settlements (Allamuchy. Hackettstown. Whitehall. Petersburg. Cat Swamp. Vienna. Meadville Hill. Quaker Grove) and settlers (Cummins brothers, Ezekiel Ayres family, Vliet brothers, James Fleming, Robertson family, etc); first churches and cemeteries; legends; early schools; roads, canal, and railroad; etc. Illustrated with 2 maps (1 double-page), old engravings, and many old portraits and photographs ("Pictures of the Past").
