Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), black & white photos, maps, small edge tears jacket (flap not price-clipped), small edge tears top edge, light toning pages as usual (notably front free flyleaf), minor edgewear, previous annotation title page erased (light impression marks). 310 pp. Ion Idriess relates many anecdotes of his prospecting adventures from the 1930s onwards 'back o'Cairns', the undeveloped mineral-rich hinterland between Townsville and Cape York peninsula, but mainly near Cairns. The author, known as Jack Idriess in those days, captures the colour, excitement and hard courageous historical struggle in these locations. He also provides insights into Aboriginal rights and ceremonies. First edition.
