Washington, DC. Very Good. 1959. First Edition. Original Printed Wrappers. 119 pages; Clean and secure in original pink printed wrappers, stapled at spine; faded along edges of rear wrapper, last two pages clipped at bottom corner. This work chronicles Russell and Aileen Train's trip to Africa in 1958 and provides detailed descriptions of their safari. Since he was a young boy, Train was fascinated with Africa. After being married for less than two years, Aileen was so tired of hearing about Africa that she convinced Train to take the family on safari there. They hunted and camped, listening to lions prowl their tents after dark. They also experienced Africa during a time of rapid decolonization. He was concerned about what might happen to the continents natural resources. Not long after that visit in 1956, train joined the African Safari Club in D.C. There, he was the head of a conservation committee that included Kermit Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelts grandson. Russell Errol Train (1920 2012) was the second administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), from September 1973 to January 1977 and the founder chairman emeritus of World Wildlife Fund (WWF). As the second head of the EPA under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, Train helped place the issue of the environment on the presidential and national agenda in the late 1960s and early 1970s, a key period in the environmental movement. He was a conservative who reached out to the business community and Republicans. He promulgated the idea that as the economy of the nation was growing quickly, public as well as private projects should consider and evaluate the environmental impacts of their actions. .
