Bright, shiny, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. Inner hinges are perfect. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Pages are clean and crisp. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. 7.5" wide by 9.5" tall. Based on the 1903 operetta by Victor Herbert with lyrics by Glen MacDonough, this is the first BABES IN TOYLAND ever to appear in book form. It is handsomely illustrated by Allen Atkinson with Dust Jacket art (front and back) and full color paintings throughout. "First Edition" is so stated, with complete letter row (ABCDE) on copyright page. Bound in the original pale yellow boards, with an off-white cloth spine. Lettered on the spine and embossed in copper with a row of toy soldiers on the front cover. The front and rear endpapers, designed by Joy Chu, continue the marching toy soldiers motif. Summary: "A retelling, based on the 1903 operetta, of the classic story of how Jane and Alan are pursued by their evil uncle Barnaby who wants to kill them for their fortune.".
