About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1929. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine. 7.5" by 5". None . A very smart first edition of this witty novel by prolific American writer, Philip Wylie. The first edition of this work.In the publisher's original cloth binding. An early novel by American writer Philip Wylie, who specialised in works ranging from pulp science fiction to mystery and satire. A handful of Wylie's works exercised great influence in 20th century pulp magazines and comic books, such as the work that followed this one, Gladiator (1930) which partially inspired the comic-book character Superman. This particular work seems to take a more grounded yet satirical environment, centering on a writer named Thornton and his social circle's relationships with one another. In the original cloth binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelf wear to the extremities and a small mark to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot. Endpapers are age toned. Near Fine
