Near fine brown cloth in lightly worn, unclipped dust jacket. A significant piece of California and USA culinary history. The California avocado industry began developing earnestly in 1923 with the formation of cooperative marketing association of California avocado growers, renamed CALAVO by 1927. The Avocado Cookbook, one of the earliest cookbooks to focus on this fruit. In October, 1967 the "News for Farmers Cooperatives" published this blurb. "The Avocado Cookbook, including over 600 ways to prepare and serve the avocado, was introduced to southern California's newspaper, radio and television editors and entertainment personalities at a special avocado smorgasbord, with all courses drawn from the new book. ...It's purpose is to demonstrated that the avocado is much more than just another salad fruit. Recipes, background material, and all photos, both color and black and white, for the cookbook were drawn from the library of Calavo Growers of California."
