About This Item
From Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell to businessman Bob O'Conner. Collection of four ALS (two pages and two notecards) and one envelope (dated Oct. 3, 1980). Near fine collection with a bit of creasing to the pages, and a touch of soiling to the envelope. Overall, a nice and unique collection. This collection contains four separate correspondences from Carl Hubbell to Bob O'Connor. From the content of the letters, it appears that Hubbell and O'Connor's relationship centers around an autographing business deal. In two of the correspondences, written on notecards, Hubbell provides O'Connor with an updated home address. In the other two, Hubbell expresses concerns about a recent stroke affecting his ability to sign materials, and makes O'Connor aware of a mistake that he made while signing balls. Hubbell, a Hall of Fame pitcher who spent his entire career with the Giants, won National League MVP honors twice (1933, 1936) and was selected for nine All-Star games. Perhaps his most iconic moment in the league was striking out five all-time great hitters in a row in the 1934 All-Star Game: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin. . Signed.
