About This Item
Manchester, 23 July 1845. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, fine. Robert Vaughan (17951868), Congregationalist minister, Professor of History in the University of London, 183043, and President of the Independent College, Manchester, 1843-57. He founded, and for a time edited the British Quarterly. He wrote, among various other works, A History of England under the Stuarts, Revolutions of race in English history, Revolutions of History, and a Life of Wycliffe. Our friend Carleton is a treasure of all treasures ... but beyond him the land does not teem with wisdom, and still less with men willing to give time to our affairs.
