Inscribed by Williams to his close friend, Estelle Hagel: "Estelle Hagel with my love, William Carlos Williams. 12/25/51" With Hagel's bookplate fixed to front pastedown. Hagel was a registered nurse whose friendship with Williams was borne out of his lesser known profession, medicine.
