This book is in good condition. There is some wear and som e staining on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. The corners of the cover boards are bumped, there is writing on the front end page of the previous owner. The pages are tanned, but clear of any markings. First edition, of one 774 copies printed on Glastonbury pure white antique laid paper by the Eden & Finsbury Press and bound in boards (out of a total edition of 1,000 copies, the remainder being cloth-bound). 4to. 77pp. Stiff card boards lettered in black at the spine and in holograph at the upper board (the lettering designed by Richard Hamilton). A trace of darkening to the board edges. Very good indeed in the original unprinted acetate protector. Former owner name neatly inked to the front free endpaper. Sixty-nine poems, all appearing here in bookform for the first time in the UK..

The format is consistent with Starbuck's devotion to the absurd, satire, playfulness, and whimsy [Glyn Maxwell, in Oxford Companion to Twentieth-Century Poetry]. -- Softcover: 8.7x11.3-inch flat box, shrinkwrap is opened. Inscribed by Ruth Collier's husband, Richard Sharpe, on the inside of the front cover. Light wear along the fore-edge of the front cover. Four full-page illustrations. 24 pages. 11 x 7.75 inches. Three copies noted on OCLC. (Henry S. Olcott Memorial Library, LOC, Brown University). A scarce copy of The Song of the Paramahamsa, a long-form poem by Ruth Collier (1897-1975), for which she won an Olcott Foundation Award in 1940. The poem is accompanied by four of her original illustrations and was published by the Theosophical Press at the Olcott Campus. Ruth Collier was a member of the Portland Lodge (Oregon) and married Richard Sharpe VI [aka Jr] of the New York Lodge on Sept. 9, 1940 [ref: November 1940 issue of The American Theosophist]. Mr. Sharpe was educated at the Parsons School of Design in New York and did the illustrations for two of his Ruth's books.
