London, 1957. Near fine. Bromide print, portrait of author John Osborne (1929-1994), juxtaposed with the exterior of The Royal Court Theatre and signage for his play 'Look Back in Anger'. With Gerson's pencilled signature to lower right hand side of backing board, and the initials FBIPP (Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photographers). To rear, Gerson's stamp. No limitation mentioned. The backing measures 36x34.5cm and the visible image is 19.8x18.2cm. Taken by Gerson in 1957. The National Portrait Gallery owns a copy. Gerson made his reputation as a portrait photographer of literary figures, and his images count among some of the most compelling of the genre. Mounted on matte board with matte frame. The frame is not entirely attached to the backing.
