About This Item
Sydney: Random House Australia, 2015. Paperback octavo, very good condition, tables, black & white photos (few colour) centre spread, bottom corner front cover creased, minor edgewear front cover bottom corner tip & first few pages. 371 pp. In 1865, the Confederate States ship 'Shenandoah' sailed into bustling Port Phillip Bay, and the Americans were well looked after. Surprisingly, 42 Australians enlisted secretly to fight for the South in the American Civil War. The 'Shenandoah' fired the last shot of the war, having captured, burned and ransomed 38 Union ships and taken more than 1000 prisoners. Terry Smyth, the award-winning author, brings to life the Australians who sailed into adventure and controversy, among them the last man to die in the service of the Confederacy.
