About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. A 12th or 13th century anonymous old French chantefable or a lyrical story same with the prosimetrum ? a poetic design of prose and verse, a text contained in substituting sections of prose and verse. It was largely introduced in Western and Eastern literature. It existed in one manuscript which was founded by Jean-Baptiste de La Curne de Sainte-Palaye, a French historian, classicist, philologist and lexicographer.

The old French chantefable covers many Old French genres, like the chanson de geste, a sample is The Song of Roland, lyric poems, and courtly novels.

The story starts with a musical note as prologue and then the prose serves as the narrative. It is all about the tale of Aucassin and Nicolette who deeply loves each other. But Nicolette was sold to the Viscount and locked her in a tower. While Aucassin was put in prison by his father so he could not save Nicolette. There were a lot of twists and turns in the story which will leave its many readers gasp in amazement or in disbelief.

Aucassin and Nicolette is a combination of prose and verse written by Andrew Lang, a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, and anthropologist. He is best known for collecting folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are titled in his behalf. Lang is primarily known for his books on folklore, mythology, and religion. He was interested in folklore during his younger years after being inspired by John Ferguson McLennan and Sir Edward Burnett Tylor. In his book of Myth, Ritual and Religion, he discussed the incoherent aspects of mythology as continuity from more primordial schemes. He was a co-founder of psychical research and other anthropology papers.

His notable works include: St Leonards Magazine; The Ballads and Lyrics of Old France; The Odyssey of Homer Rendered Into English Prose; Aristotle?s Politics Books I. III. IV. VII; The Folklore of France; and many other books.
