Delightful biography of the illustrator/artist known as the "Fra Angelico of Satanism" (Roger Fry), who shocked & titillated the British art world & society during his short life (1872-1898). Here, his distinctive pen-and-ink drawings in the Modern Style of Art Nouveau is on full display, with 85 illustrations throughout the 112 pages. Aymer Vallance provides iconography & a comprehensive annotated list of the drawings. A wonderful resource & reference! The First Edition, first printing from 1967, this small hardcover 16mo (5.5" x 6.75") has orange cloth-covered boards decorated with a female nude to front cover in blue & blue lettering to spine. Condition is VG+: very clean & bright, binding straight & strong, pages white with just a whisper of tanning. A few rubbed &/or light soil spots to both boards, very slight rubbing to heel of spine. The unclipped DJ is Good, with many small soiled spots, rubbing & chipping to extremities, light creasing; nicely protected in new mylar cover free!
