Library blind stamp on title page and in margin of several leaves; ink stamp on bottom margin of frontispiece and inner margin of title. Interior contains scattered foxing, spotting and age-toning. A few marginal corners are clipped. Occasional minor tear neatly sealed. Bound in modern half brown calf with marbled boards. Juan Saguens, a scholar in the Order of Minims produced his "Atomismus demonstratus" in defense of Cartesian atomism. The book, written in dialogue form, was designed to counter the anti-Cartesian arguments of Francisco Palanco (1657-1720), a scholar also of the Order of Minims and a professor of philosophy and theology at the University of Salamanca. Earlier owner's clipped signature (Abraham Varick) pasted onto ffep. Bound in full green leather with owner's name in gilt stamped on cover, "ABM. VARICK JUNr." Covers with blind tooling and gilt spine lettering. Corners rounded. Abraham Varick was a successful financier prominent in Utica and Oswego area banking and manufacturing ventures, including the Varick Canal, who also served as a director of the American Tract Society. Coated stock end papers suggest the son had his father's book rebound in the 1850s.
