About This Item
New York: Princeton Architectural Press, 1997. Later printing. Hardcover. A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. Folio. This is the second publication of this book, an entirely new set of maps-plans were procured. The map-plans themselves remain identical in appearance to those in the 1978 publication, with two exceptions; In the Hamburg plan, the hand-coloring is different; and the London plan dates from 1835 rather than 1843, and delineates the original medieval settlement on the north bank, which was not present in the previous edition. The population data and textual
evaluation of the London map-plan have been adjusted to reflect this eight-year difference. Because of this change in dates, the latest date among the map-plans incorporated in the book is now 1842. This slight discrepancy with the book's original title was accepted in favor of achieving the best possible reproduction of the map-plans.
