About This Item
Philadelphia: C. O. Titus, 1871. Second Edition. Hardcover. Fair. Folio (15.5"x12.5"). 49 pages. Brown cloth covered boards with leather back strip. Front cover is stamped in blind with center gilt stamped title block. Cloth covers are worn and faded. Front hinge has a thin crack. Atlas contains 24 colored maps and plans; a large folding map of Ohio; and United States Railroad map. The map of Ohio has a closed tear on a center fold intersection with no loss of content. Another tear bottom center fold intersection of the U.S. map with no loss of content. Rest of maps are in good condition with occasional light scattered toning and spots in the margins and on the versos. Light edge wear at the bottom folds for 2 folding maps.
On the right front end sheet is an inscription "Sallie L. M. Kempel's Atlas of Preble County Ohio Presented by her Mother May 1884. Prymount Montgomery County Ohio - H H. Kempel July 20th, 1884 - Pearlie Brandenburg Troy, Miami County Ohio."
On the back side of front end sheet is a large hand drawn illustration signed by H. H. Kempel. This Atlas was found with a number of ephemeral items inside including a 16"x12" color lithograph Guardian Angel illustration (illustration has edge wear); 6"x10" 1874 Public Auction broadside (broadside has edge wear and creases); 1885 Musicale At The Opera-House, Monday Night, Feb 2, '85. Given by Mrs. D. W. Hughes' Music class Programme; a 17 page ledger; 1885 9"x12" Almanac with color illustrated cover from the Brothers Drug Co. St. Louis; 1883-1884 Green Diary Almanac with the name Sallie Kempel written in pencil on cover; and a misc preprinted attorney document.
