New York: G. P. Putnam, 1861. New edition, revised. Hardcover. Fair. Octavo. Volume VIII only. [1], viii, 519 pages, [1]. Frontispiece and half title page engravings. Brown cloth hardcover ruled in blond on the covers with gilt stamped bust illustration front cover and blind stamped bust illustration on the back cover. Gilt title on the spine. Cloth is chipped in several places including the joints, corners spine, and board edges. Contents shaken midway throughout the text with a couple of cracks to the text block. Hinges are sturdy. Pages are clean. This copy has a decorative previous owner library label of Hiram Ridgley. The date of December 8th, 1861 and the number 8 written on the label. "H. Ridgley's No. 165 (165 written in hand) Library" oval stamp on the front blank end paper. Tiny binder's ticket of "Geo. W. Alexander Binder New York" located at the bottom of the rear end sheet. A fair copy only.
