About This Item
London: Duckworth, 1934. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". Not Stated. A first edition copy of this critique of late 19th century and early 20th century poetry, signed by the author Edith Sitwell. A first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Inscribed by the author to the front free end paper. Dame Edith Louisa Sitwell (1887-1964) was the eldest of the three literary Sitwells. She became an advocate of innovative trends in English poetry, and befriended and helped many young writers. In this volume she studies the work of T. S. Eliot, William Butler Yeats, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Sacheverell Sitwell and Ezra Pound, with an overview of the contemporary poetry of the time and notes on innovations in prose. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with fading to the spine and faint marks to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Very Good
