Hodder & Stoughton, 1953. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1953. First Edition. 299 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with a colour photographic frontis and colour photographic plates throughout. There is also photographic black and white plates throughout. Minor tanning to pages with heavier foxing and tanning to pastedowns and endpapers. Slight dog-eared pages throughout and visible tanning to text block edges. Front hinge is cracked with exposed netting and cracks to guttering with exposed netting. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning.
Synopsis
From the book: 'This is the story of how, on 29 May, 1953, two men, both endowed with outstanding stamina and skill, reached the top of Everest and came back unscathed to rejoin their comrades. 'Yet this will not be the whole story, for the ascent of Everest was not the work of one day, nor even of those few anxious, unforgettable weeks in which we prepared and climbed this summer. It is, in fact, a tale of sustained and tenacious endeavour by many, over a long period of time.'
