About This Item
The Ascent of Everest.
Hunt, John. Published by Hodder & Stoughton. London, 1953, First edition, Pp. 300.. SIGNED by 4 Expedition Members on the title page: John Hunt (Author and Expedition Leader), George Lowe (Photographer), George Band ( Diet), Michael Westmacott ( Ascent Party).
A Very Good+ Copy. The text is clean and without any markings, and the publisher's blue cloth binding has no fading, and there is slight shelf wear. The dust jacket is clean, not priced clipped, with only minimal fading on the spine and a few light spots on the front wrap. Overall a very nice item with signatures of four expedition members.
Synopsis
From the book: 'This is the story of how, on 29 May, 1953, two men, both endowed with outstanding stamina and skill, reached the top of Everest and came back unscathed to rejoin their comrades. 'Yet this will not be the whole story, for the ascent of Everest was not the work of one day, nor even of those few anxious, unforgettable weeks in which we prepared and climbed this summer. It is, in fact, a tale of sustained and tenacious endeavour by many, over a long period of time.'
