Illustrated dust jacket (wraparound) with yellow coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. This is the story of how, on 29th of May, 1953, 2 men, both endowed with outstanding stamina and skill, inspired by an unflinching resolve, reach the top of Everest and came back unscathed to rejoin their comrades. -- Front fold over blurb. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners and lower book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and a little to the pages. A few marks to the text block edges. Gift inscription to the free front end page. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and some tears to the back strip edges. Synopsis
From the book: 'This is the story of how, on 29 May, 1953, two men, both endowed with outstanding stamina and skill, reached the top of Everest and came back unscathed to rejoin their comrades. 'Yet this will not be the whole story, for the ascent of Everest was not the work of one day, nor even of those few anxious, unforgettable weeks in which we prepared and climbed this summer. It is, in fact, a tale of sustained and tenacious endeavour by many, over a long period of time.'
