Hollywood, CA: American Society of Cinematographers, 1983. First Edition. Signed and inscribed by Linwood G. Dunn and George Turner to noted film historian Robert S. Birchard. Additionally, Turner has drawn a picture of King Kong with is inscription. Fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with some minor handling. Linwood G. Dunn (1904-1998) was a major pioneer in the area of visual effects and had a long career working on such classics as King Kong, Citizen Kane, The Thing From Another World, Bringing Up Baby, Cat People, Out of the Past, Mighty Joe Young, Shock Corridor, the original Star Trek series, etc. Oversize pictorial format, 297 pages plus index. A history of visual effects in film from the 1895 Edison production of The Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots, to the more contemporary techniques of such films as Star Wars, Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, etc. Filled with color and black & white photographs as well as drawings and diagrams.
