About This Item
Minneapolis, MN: Artpolice, 1982. First Edition. Very good.. Single issue of the long-running art zine helmed by Frank Gaard, a teacher at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. With a punk ethos and an outsider quality, ARTPOLICE was a reactionary publication designed to provoke, even within its own ranks, which in the early years largely consisted of Gaard's current and former students. "I wanted to break all the rules...I fancied myself and art criminal." Issues are comprised almost entirely of line drawings, with constant variation in size, printing methods, titles and issue numbers (there are at least seven issues marked volume 1 no. 1). Contributors to this issue include Mark Akguilan, Andy Baird, Mike Brehm, Eric Burmeister, Robert Corbit, Frank Gaard, Janet Groenert, Deb Huff, Dave Johnson, Lillian Kopomen, Joe McDonnell, Bill McKearn, Steve Mignone, Gregory Miller, Ann Morgan, Rick Noble, Ed Rath, John Rath, Coleen Salmi, Carol Scalamera, Craig Smith, Jennifer Sobin, Jon West, Fritz Wolfmeyer, and Chris Woodward. [Aarons and Roth, 78-87]. Wraps. 4to. Saddle-stapled in original wraps. Photo offset. Moderate toning to wraps with touches of rubbing around spine. Very good.
