Arthur Mitchell Sackler (19131987) was an American psychiatrist and of pharmaceutical baron whose fortune originated in medical advertising and trade journals. Sackler amassed the largest Chinese art collection in the world, which he donated to the Smithsonian. Additionally he underwrote many, many art museums, galleries and medical schools. Since his death, Sackler's reputation has been tarnished due to his company Purdue Pharma's role in the opioid crisis.
