From Wikipedia: "Art Deco, or Deco, is an influential visual arts design style that began flourishing in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. It combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colors, bold geometric shapes and lavish ornamentation. One of its major attributes is an embrace of technology. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance and faith in social and technological progress. From an on-line posting: "Richard Striner is a writer and historian whose books and articles have covered political and presidential history, literature, economics, film, architecture, and historic preservation. Dr. Striner has established himself as an expert on presidential power, especially the political life and presidency of Abraham Lincoln. At Washington College he teaches American history and several courses use films as historical documents."
