About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. Charles H. Spurgeon was one of the most renowned and most influential preachers of the second half of the 19th century and not only among Baptists, but among people belonging to other denominations as well. He was also a very prolific writer ? he wrote mostly sermons, but he was also known as a writer of books about prayers, hymns, commentaries as well as for his contributions to various magazines. His first sermons were published in 1855, when he was only 21 years old and by the end of his career in 1892, he had published altogether 49 volumes and had preached over 3,500 sermons.

Around the Wicket Gate is a collection of sermons and essays in the easy to read, sharp and witty style that made Spurgeon so popular and that makes the book an excellent choice for young and adult readers alike. The book is dedicated "to those who only know about Christ", people who have come up to the doors of faith, but have not yet entered and it is intended to provide help to these people to find real faith.

The term Wicket Gate was first used by John Bunyan in The Pilgrim?s Progress and it is used as an allegory for the final step in the process of embracing faith, of entering through the narrow gate that leads to true faith. In the book Spurgeon discusses the various questions that people struggle with as they are approaching the gate to faith and he addresses the doubts experienced by those struggling with faith. The language of the book is fresh and crisp, easy to understand, yet able to convey complex messages ? the perfect choice for anyone looking for guidance and help to be able to step in through the Wicket Gate, as well as for those interested in Bible studies.
