London: George Allen, 1891-95. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". None. Two, uniformly bound, lecture series by the noted art critic and scholar, John Ruskin. The second edition of both works, which are in a very bright condition. Both volumes are in the publisher's original cloth bindings. Ruskin was the leading art critic of the Victorian era, and was an art patron, draughtsman, watercolourist and philanthropist. This set comprises of 'Ariadne Florentina' and 'A Joy For Ever'. 'Ariadne Florentina' is six lectures on wood and metal engravings given at the University of Oxford in Michaelmas Term 1872. 'A Joy Forever' is two lectures on the political economy of art delivered in Manchester July 10th and 13th 1857. With seventeen plates to 'Ariadne Florentina' providing examples of the wood and metal engravings Ruskin describes. A very smart two volume set. In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Externally, smart, with bumping to the head and tail of spine. A few light patches of damp staining to the front board at the bottom. Internally, generally firmly bound. 'A Joy For Ever' is slightly strained in places. Top edge to 'A Joy Forever' is unopened. Pages are very bright, with just the odd spot. Very Good Indeed
