London: Adlard Coles Limited, 1979. (UK) fourth impression of this edition which first appeared in 1971. The book was first published in Sweden in 1768. No markings, a small bump to the lower edge of back cover, just breaking the cloth, thus Very Good in Very Good (-) dust jacket with some rubbing to the top edge of rear panel and a touch of chipping to the bottom edge of rear panel. Dj is in mylar sleeve. Cloth hardcover, 103pp, LXII lovely fold-out plates showing fine drawings of frigates, hagboats,barks, pinks, launches, pinnaces, barges, smacks, galiots, yawls. Contents: On the resistance which a ship in the motion meets from the water; On the dimensions of ships; On the proportions of privateers; On the proportions of masts and yeards for merchant ships; On the construction of the scale of solidarity; On the measurement for tonnage and stowage; On the accommodation for provisions. Fredrik Henrik af Chapman (1721-1808) was a naval architect, a vice-admiral in the Swedish navy, and the author of several books on shipbuilding. This volume constitutes an indispensable treatise for model builders, naval historians, and maritime enthusiasts, as well as anyone who appreciates the art of drafting. A heavy book.
