About This Item
Warsaw: Centrum Architektury, 2012 8vo (22.5 cm), 320 pp. Publisher's boards. In Polish. AR / PS: The architecture of Arsenius Romanowicz and Piotr Szymaniak. Edited by Grzegorz Piątek. Arseniusz Romanowicz (AR, 1910- 2008) and Piotr Szymaniak (PS, 1911-1967) designed some of the most interesting buildings in post-war Warsaw: Central Station, Eastern Railway Station, Ochota, Powiśle and Stadion stations. However they did not care about publicity and remained in the shade for most of their lives. The buildings themselves quickly deteriorated and until recent restorations and upgrades it was difficult to appreciate them. AR/PS is a collection of essays by Polish and foreign authors discussing the career of Romanowicz and Szymaniak from the 1930s to the 1990s, and nearly 200 old and new photographs, including unpublished materials from family archives. The book also included unpublished text by Arseniy Romanovich from the mid-1980s and interviews with architects who worked on upgrading AR/PS train stations.
