About This Item

New York: Scribners, 1938. First American edition. Hardcover. Ex-Library/good. First printing. The American edition preceded the English edition. Wells novel was based on Odette Keun, an ex-mistress, portrayed unfavorably, who had recently published her uncomplimentary views of Wells in a feminist magazine. The publisher required Wells to include a preface disclaimer out of a fear of litigation. Ex-library with no external markings. Dustjacket is chipped along the top and bottom edges.
