The Apple of the Eye

by Wescott Glenway

  • Hardcover
New York: The Dial Press, 1924. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Green cloth, light wear at edges, corners very slightly bumped, spine lettering a touch rubbed - a nice, attractive copy. Previous owner's bookplate and with a signed inscription from Wescott "Inscribed to Ingle Barr with the author's best wishes, Glenway Wescott." Laid into the book is a very funny two page handwritten letter from Wescott responding to Barr's request for "an association inscription" which Wescott takes issue with "as though it was part of my job to inscribed things. It is an ungratiating approach, and I wonder why I do not drag my heels even more than I have done." Earlier in the letter, explaining why it has taken so long to respond, Wescott says "I am sometimes of a gloomy, neglectful disposition. I am absent minded when engaged in creative work; I have misfortunes now and then." A charmingly open letter dated November 26, '59 and a nice copy of Wescott's first book in a custom chemise and slipcase. Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Literature & Literary; Inventory No: 045541.
