NY: Harper & Brothers. VG. 1948. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Stated first edition bound in dark blue cloth with gold strips and let tering on the spine. 8vo size, 205pp. A Very Good copy in a Very Good dust jacket. The book has tiny rub marks at the corners and a light bu mp to the top right corner of the front board. The pages are lightly t anned at their edges else content is clean, tight and unmarked. The du st jacket has a corner chip and two short, closed edge tears on the fr ont panel. Rubs to its corners and to the head and heel of its spine. The upper edges of the jacket have tiny frays. .
Synopsis
Ape and Essence is a novel by Aldous Huxley, published by Chatto & Windus in the UK and Harper & Brothers in the US. It is set in a dystopia, similar to that in Brave New World, Huxley's more famous work. It is largely a satire of the rise of large-scale warfare and warmongering in the 20th century, and presents a pessimistic view of the politics of mutually assured destruction.
