About This Item
London: Printed for Hooper & Wingstead , 1797 [1810]. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 11.5" by 9" . Not Stated . New edition of Francis Grose's study of the history of England and Wales, illustrated with lovely engravings and maps, some expertly hand-coloured, and rebound in modern cloth. Dated 1797 to title page, but watermark 1810 to rear indicates this to be a reprint of a new edition. Volume VII of an eight volume set of Francis Grose's topographical account of the antiquities of England and Wales. Chapters focus on Anglesea, Brecknockshire, Caermarthenshire, Caernarvonshire, Cardiganshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Glamorganshire, Merionethshire, Montgomeryshire, Pembrokeshire, and Radnorshire. Illustrated with a large folding map, frontispiece, engraved title page, seventy copper plates, and numerous maps in text, one of which expertly hand-coloured. Collated, complete. Rebound in modern duo cloth, new endpapers. Externally lovely with minor shelf wear only. Binding only lightly tender to rear, holding firm throughout. Minor staining mark to upper right corner first few leaves, not affecting illustration to frontispiece or any of the text. Pages generally very clean with only minor spotting to odd leaf, especially leaves of plates. Very Good Indeed
